Oobi behind the scenes - Stephanie D'Abruzzo as Uma

Stephanie D'Abruzzo (born December 7, 1971) is a puppeteer who has worked for Sesame Workshop since 1993. On Oobi, she was a main cast member, playing Uma and Inka.

Stephanie was an original cast member of the puppet musical Avenue Q, for which she won a 2004 Tony nomination, a Theatre World Award, and a special Outer Critics Circle Award.

Bio

Other than Oobi, Stephanie has performed and voiced nearly 200 characters for various projects including Sesame Street, Bear in the Big Blue House, The Puzzle Place, Sheep in the Big City and The Book of Pooh.

Stephanie first gained greater recognition as an original cast member of the puppet musical Avenue Q where she originated the characters of Kate Monster and Lucy the Slut. Her television credits outside of puppeteering include an appearance on the musical episode of Scrubs and as a commentator on I Love the 70s: Volume 2.

Stephanie worked on Oobi at the same time as Avenue Q. Fortunately, no scheduling conflicts came up. In 2011, she named Uma as her favorite role:

Question: "What is your favorite puppet character you have ever played?"
Stephanie: "I enjoyed playing Uma (from Oobi) so much. I wish I had the rights to the character, as I would love to do little videos with her where she gets frustrated by the world around her. I want to see her just try to open a sugar packet for two minutes, then end with her in a spotlight singing Sondheim's 'Losing My Mind.' But who has time for all those potential lawsuits?" (source)
